About the blog

Moin!⚓ We created this blog initially to learn how to build a website using WordPress. So, we needed an idea of a topic. Well, how about another travel blog… next to hundreds or even thousands of other travel blogs?😂 We thought it’s a good idea to have kind of database from our trips for ourselves, our family and friends. A database that everyone can access anytime for inspiration. At the moment this blog is mainly limited to Switzerland. In Switzerland we truly learned to understand what it means to feel connected to nature. It has so many magical places that make you feel like in a fairy tail and are therefore worth to share.

We are coming from the flat north of Germany and our posts are seen from this perspective, a perspective of someone who has no clue about the mountains.😅 That’s also were the Moin is coming from: Moin basically means “Hi” and is used to greet people at any time of the day. You hear it primarily in the northern parts of Germany and it has its roots in the Low German word mo(o)i, meaning “beautiful” or “good”.

How to read the posts

Each post contains a summary with some key points, that are selected on our needs and based on our experiences. Therefore, there might be some information missing simply because we haven’t seen or experienced it on our trip. In case you think something is missing, we are happy to receive your feedback😇 We like to have it simple and all relevant links available on one site, therefore we avoid long descriptions. You can filter by categories, e.g. seasons or cantons, on the right on your desktop or on the bottom on your phone.

Some General Tips and Tricks

These are some random tips and tricks that we already once didn’t consider and it brought us into trouble😂 This section will be updated frequently, whenever we remember something or made a new experience.

  • Remember: The higher you get, the colder it gets. In winter it can be the other way around on a sunny day😄
  • The snow is reflecting the sun, don’t forget to use sun protection and to bring sun glasses
  • Always check the last departure of cable cars, it’s easy to lose track of time
  • Winter: Don’t always trust hiking trails where snowshoes are not necessary, sometimes they are necessary😅
  • If you are going by public transport, check the train / bus schedule carefully to not miss the last possibility to go home
  • Have an eye on the battery of your phone, when you are taking lots of pictures😁
  • Don’t be afraid of cows, they may cross your way or you even have to go through their territory. Usually, they do nothing. Just don’t tease them and be careful when they have calves around. In that case you do have to be scared because they can get aggressive when they see their calves in danger.
